How does it work?
IPSGA – The framework for your course and the structure for your advanced mindset
IPSGA stands for Information-Position-Speed-Gear-Acceleration. This is the system of motorcycle control for advanced riders and provides a logical sequence for our observation and planning when we ride.
At MAM we use the system to structure a course around six ‘observed’ rides – the first five focus on each component of the system in turn, and the sixth is a mock test. This way we aim to have you test-ready in six rides so you can embark on your new journey as an advanced rider.
The course begins with a theory session in which the system is explored in detail, helping you to be ready to apply it to your riding from your first on-road session. The theory session is also an excellent opportunity to meet your fellow and trainees and our team of observers who will be coaching you towards your goal of passing the advanced test.
Each of your rides will be with a different observer, so you will benefit from the huge range of biking experience held by the group. After each ride your observer will give you detailed feedback so that you will know what you need to practice before your next session. The scheduled course rides, which take place at the weekends, are supported by our system of ‘ad hoc’ rides, meaning you can book extra observed rides on the days that suit you and progress at your own speed. And don’t worry if you need more than six rides to prepare for your test, the course fee covers you for up to twelve.
Overall, our aim is to make you into a safe, systematic and smooth rider ready to embrace the challenges presented by the roads today and enjoy your life as a biker.
